A Note from Senator Jones
Senate Passes
Historic $56.6 Billion
Budget With Overwhelming Support The Florida Senate fulfilled its primary responsibility by passing a balanced budget for Fiscal Year 2004-05. The most comprehensive in state history, the budget encompasses approximately $57 billion in funding for the State of Florida. Highlights include $1.1 billion in additional education funding, $800 million in new funding for health and human services, and $340 million in supplemental funding for Article V implementation and criminal justice. This budget is fiscally responsible and begins to implement some of the features of a goal-oriented, long-range spending plan for the state. In addition, each funding decision was made with the goal of limiting the use of non-recurring funds on recurring budget issues. This budget package connects Florida through economic development and transportation, preserves Florida’s health and human safety net, and helps Florida work towards a brighter future through funding innovative educational programs.
